405,172. Pumps for molten metal. INTERTYPE CORPORATION, 360, Furman Street, Brooklyn, New York, U.S.A. June 8, 1933, No. 16442. Convention date, June 15, 1932. [Class 102 (i).] A pump for a typebar-making machine is provided with one or with several pistons operated by a lever and spring or levers and springs, the lever or levers being provided with rollers which run one behind the other on the same cam, whereby in lifting the piston or pistons, the rollers in contact with the cam at any instant are acted upon by different parts of the cam, whereby the wear upon the cam is reduced. In Fig. 1, three pistons c are moved by three levers d, e, f each under the pressure of a spring g. Each lever carries a roller h, i, or k, which runs on a cam l, and on the pump lever e stops are provided which engage under the levers d and f and thus prevent the levers f, d and rollers k, h from falling into the recess of the cam before the roller i has passed the edge o. In lifting the levers, the rollers k, h, i are raised and the corresponding springs g are stretched, in turn. In Fig. 3, only one piston c, lever d and spring g are provided, and to the lever d is pivoted at r a carriage q carrying cam-rollers h, i, and such that in the raised position of the piston c it is pressed against the stop s on the lever d, and remains so pressed until the second roller i falls into the recess of the cam, when the carriage releases the stop s to permit the piston to descend. In raising the piston, the cam first acts upon both rollers in effecting the initial compression of the spring until the carriage engages the stop s, when it acts through the increased leverage resulting from the distance between the axes u, t, the roller h having run over the edge p.
