Abstract

427,837. Stays. THOMSON, R. S., Darvel, St. Annes Road, Headingley, Leeds. Feb. 7, 1934, No. 3972. [Class 65 (i)] In a stay of the kind having holes to be engaged with a fixed pin which has retaining or locking means adapted to be brought into an operative position to prevent removal of the stay from the pin, spring means are provided which have to be overcome in the passage of the stay on to the pin and which then either move the locking means automatically into the operative position or press the stay against the locking means when the latter has been moved into the operative position. Fig. 6 shows a pin 5 having a transverse box containing a spring-pressed bevelled plunger 8 which is pressed in when the stay is pressed down on the pin and prevents removal of the stay until the plunger is pressed in by hand ; the spring-retaining plug 14 may be replaced by another locking plunger similar to 8. In Fig. 3 the upper end of the pin 5 is forked and carries a pivoted member 8 which allows the passage of the stay in the position shown but can be turned into the horizontal position to project on either side of the pin and prevent passage of the stay ; a spring 10, surrounding the pin, is compressed when the stay is pressed on the peg, the locking member 8 is then turned to the operative position, and the spring presses the stay against the locking member to prevent accidental movement of the latter to the releasing position shown.
