Abstract
489,143. Type-bar-making machines. SCHWEIZERISCHE LOKOMOTIVUND MASCHINENFABRIK. Oct. 15, 1937, No. 28082. Convention date, Oct. 15, 1936. [Class 100 (iii)] Assembling and distributing dies.-Relates to type-line composing and printing machines, and particularly to means for transferring the assembled line from the assembling point to the printing position and from there into the elevator in a straight horizontal path. The type are delivered from a magazine to a linechannel 2 by belts 3 and a star-wheel 4, the advancing line 1 being supported by a finger 5 on a sliding rod. When the line is completed, it is pushed to the left by a pusher-rod 16, operated by a lever 11 and a cam 12, to a position above two spaced grippers 45, 46, by which the line is further transferred. The grippers are mounted on a vertically sliding plate 21, which is raised by levers 24 and a cam 29, so as to cause the grippers to embrace the line. The right-hand gripper 45 is adjusted in accordance with the length of the line, and, on the rise of the plate 21, the left-hand gripper escapes from a stop and is drawn against the line by a spring 47, which connects the two grippers. The grippers are then moved to the left by rack-mechanism driven from a shaft 34, so as to carry the line beneath a drum 70, by which the printing is effected. The left end of the line abuts against a stop 50 carried by the plate 21, and the right-hand gripper is arrested by a stop 53. The rise of the plate 21 causes the finger 5 to be turned out of the line-channel, upon which it and the pusher-rod 16 are returned to initial position by springs. Simultaneously with the movement of the grippers 45, 46 to the left, a slide 55 carrying an ejector 61 is moved to the right. The descent of the plate 21 causes the ejector to be projected behind the line. When the grippers return to the right, the slide 55 moves to the left, and the ejector 61 transfers the line to the elevator 62.
