Abstract

361,617. Applying laundry tags. AMERICAN LAUNDRY MACHINERY CO., Norwood Station, Cincinnati, Ohio, U.S.A. Nov. 24, 1930, No. 35329. Convention date, March 10. [Class 73.] A machine for applying identification tags to laundry, comprising means for feeding a tag or clip to an attaching position and for opening the jaws of the clip in that position, is characterized by the clip feeding-member being formed as a slide which has a shoulder to engage the clip and is reciprocated horizontally beneath a vertical magazine, the feeding and opening of the clip being effected by a single stroke of the control member. The opening mechanism is similar to that described in Specification 360,689, a vertically-reciprocated cam plate 9, Fig. 2, operated by a pedal, and provided with a slot 15 engaged by a roller on a bell crank 23 operating a member 26 supported by pivoted, parallel links 25, 27. Depression of the cam plate moves the member 26 forwardly and then tilts its forward end 31, which is formed with a jaw 33 for engaging the upper arm of the clip. The clips are contained in a magazine 37, Fig. 4, and are fed by a slide 22 operated by an arm actuated by a second cam slot in the cam plate 9. The slide has a shoulder 36 which engages behind the clip, the lower arm of the clip being engaged by a jaw 41. The jaw 33 engages the upper arm of the clip immediatelyafter the latter reaches the position shown, the further tilting movement opening the clip. The jaw 33 is carried on the pivoted, spring-influenced ends 31 of the member 26 to prevent breakage in the event of the jaw meeting an obstruction. The front end of the slide is provided with a short vertical extension 46, by means of which an unused clip is returned with the slide. The member 26 is furnished on each side with depending prongs 47 which form abutments for the goods fed into the clips, and facilitate their clearance over the extension 46 on the return movement of the slide. An upper guard 50 is also provided which prevents the clips being opened too far, and the goods from being fed above the clip. The magazine for the clips is carried on pivots about midway of its length to facilitate charging, and the travel of the cam plate and slide is controlled by adjustable stops.
