Clamping matrices; moulds.-In machines of the kind described in Specifications 179,603 and 179,604, means is provided for readily adapting the machine to cast either ordinary line matter or single types or logotypes. The mould bodypiece, which slides between the mould-blocks 12, 13, carries a clamping-bar 18, which is adapted to clamp the matrices irrespective of their number against an abutment 16 on the end gate 15 of the mould. The body-piece is reciprocated by a lever 27 mounted on a shaft 30 and actuated by a cam 34 and a spring 36. A pin 25 on the body-piece co-operates with a stepped stop 26 to determine the length of line to be cast. When single types or logotypes are required, the lever 27 is brought under the action of an additional cam 44 to cause the bar 18 to clamp the matrices. The cam 44 acts through an arm 41 loose on the shaft 30 and connectible thereto by a sliding key operated by hand. The arm 41 is in two parts, which are connected by to spring 42 to give a yielding pressure on the matrices.
