[Class 87 (ii)] [Also in Group X] Reinforced-concrete beams are cast in moulds which are formed in a clay puddle 11 provided on an earth bed 10 as shown in Fig. 7, the moulds being formed by pressing a number of wooden formers 12 into the clay. Each former 12 is provided in its upper face with a T-shaped slot for the reception of a T- headed tool by means of which the former may be lifted from the clay either before or after the latter has set. Alternatively, the moulds may be formed in the ground by pressing a master beam into the earth to form a trough and consolidating the adjacent earth by tamping. In another arrangement, the beams are cast in a mould which is built on the ground, with its sides formed of bricks, or of wood, iron, or concrete beams, and its ends formed of bricks or wood. The inner surfaces of this mould may be greased with soap or a mixture of oil and water. The reinforcing rods of the beam may be supported during moulding of the beam by means of the projecting upper ends 17 of the stirrups 16 as shown in Fig. 5.
