Abstract

460,445. Cathode-ray tubes. BAIRD TELEVISION, Ltd., and SZEGHO, C. July 27, 1935, Nos. 21349/35 and 14865/36. [Class 39 (i)] A cathode-ray tube comprises within its envelope a thermionic diode rectifier. As shown, the cathode 6 of the cathode-ray tube forms the anode of the diode, and is coated on the side facing the anode 3 with electron emitting material and on the side facing the diode filament 1 with amorphous carbon. The cathode 6 is heated by radiation from the filament 1 or by electron bombardment. The anode 3 is connected with the cathode 6 through a resistance 4 shunted by a smoothing condenser 5, and with the filament 1 through the secondary of a transformer 2. In a modification the diode electrodes are separate from the cathoderay electrodes, the cathode-ray cathode being connected through a transformer secondary with the anode of the diode and through a resistance shunted by a condenser with the diode filament, the cathode-ray anode being connected directly with the diode filament.
