Abstract
459,215. Oil engines; starting. SCHROEDER, J., 35, Moltkesstrasse, Cologne, Germany. March 29, 1935, No. 9788. Void [Abridged as open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, June 6, 1936]. [Classes 7 (iii) and 7 (v)] Fuel is injected through nozzles 6 into a spherical combustion chamber 4 which is in communication with the cylinder through a circular or oval passage 7, and with a spherical air cell through one or more rifled passage: 8. The combustion chamber and the cell are formed in a body 3 which is surrounded by a liner 2 of high heal resistivity enclosed ir a bulb-shaped member 1 of steel which is se cured to the cylinder by a flange 1a. Compressed air for starting is supplied past a non- return valve 10. In the construction shown in Fig. 6, a cooling liquid is contained between the member 1 and a brass or copper cap 11. When several bulb-shaped members are associated with one engine cylinder the passages 7 are connected by conduits 12. The nozzles are connected with the fuel supply conduit so that when a nozzle or pair of nozzles is disabled another nozzle or pair of nozzles can be utilized. A saltpetre plug may be provided in the chamber 4 to facilitate ignition.
