Abstract

328,262. Hemmingsen, T. V. Jan. 23, 1929. Cylinders receiving liquid fuel. - In a valve - controlled fuel injection nozzle, fuel is circulated through annular or spiral cooling passages formed in the nozzle coaxial with the axial fuel injection passage. As shown in Fig. 1, the nozzle b is secured to the nozzle body a by a cap e, and is provided with a fuel injection passage h controlled by a needle valve g, and with a spiral cooling passage n to which fuel is supplied by a pump through a passage k in the nozzle body. After circulating through the passage n, the fuel passes through the conduit o into the space p, whereupon the valve g is lifted by the pressure of the fuel which then enters the cylinder through the passage h. In a modification, fuel is supplied to the nozzle in the usual manner by a pump and the cooling passages form part of the passage conveying fuel bye-pasaed by the pump back to the fuel reservoir.
