Abstract

522,666. Liquid-fuel injectors. L'ORANGE, P. Dec. 20, 1938, No. 37054. Convention date, June 24. [Class 7 (iii)] The space above the stem of a fluid-actuated needle valve F communicates with the fuel delivery line of a pump through one or more throttling apertures J. A preliminary fuel injection occurs through a throttled aperture K, connected to the space above the valve stem, before the valve F is raised and continues during the main injection. The aperture J may be formed in a cover H or side wall of the valve guide, or through a part of the wall of the valve which is subjected to the pump pressure. A non-return valve prevents combustion gases from entering the fuel delivery line. In the modification shown in Fig. 4, the throttling aperture is formed by the clearance between a spring-loaded valve H<1> and its guide, and the preliminary injection does not occur until the valve H<1> opens.
