Abstract
Coke oven or like gas is passed through active carbon until condensible constituents liquefying more readily than ethane an ethylene, such as propylene, propane and their higher normally gaseous homologues begin to occur in quantities of about 15 per cent in the issuing gas. The adsorbed constituents are then recovered from the carbon yielding a motor fuel, while the residual gas may be used directly for heating or power or may be subjected to chemical conversion in known manner. Specification 385,257 is referred to.
