Abstract

452,790. Valve circuits. MARCONI'S WIRELESS TELEGRAPH CO., Ltd., Electra House, Victoria Embankment, London.- (Assignees of Mathes, R. E. ; 755, Belvidero Avenue, Westfield, New Jersey, U.S.A.) Feb. 28, 1935, No. 6397. Convention date, Feb. 28, 1934. [Class 40 (v)] A thermionic trigger arrangement comprises a single valve having two control grids G1, G4, a grid-anode G2 and a plate anode P. With no signal from S, the control grid G1 is so biassed from - EC and R1 that the electron stream is partially blocked. The grid-anode G2 passes current due to positive bias from +EB through R6, the values of resistances R4, in the circuit of the second control grid G4 and R5, connecting anode G2 and grid G4, being chosen so that the p.d. across R6 produces such a potential on G4 that the anode P passes current which flows through R3. Resistances R1, R2 are such that the potential of G1 is not affected. A positive pulse from S increases current from G2 through R6 and the negative bias on grid G4 is thereby increased, reducing current drawn by anode P through R3. The action is cumulative until current from G2 reaches saturation ; this is the first condition of stability. A negative signal pulse from S causes the converse cycle to occur, anode current from P reaching a maximum and current from G2 a minimum; until the second stable condition is reached. In a modification, Fig. 2 (not shown), the signals are applied to the outer grid G4, the inner grid G1 being connected to the cathode ; resistances R1, R2 are consequently omitted. The grid G4 when positive causes plate current to increase and when negative causes increase in current to the grid G2, robbing the plate current. Values of the resistances are indicated in the Specification.
