Abstract

537,695. Television. MARCONI'S WIRELESS TELEGRAPH CO., Ltd. Jan. 1, 1940, No. 62. Convention date, Dec. 30, 1938. [Class 40 (iii)] The periodic deflecting voltage is utilized to cut off the cathode ray both on the failure of either deflecting voltage and also during the return periods of the deflecting voltages. Impulses from the line and frame deflecting circuits 13, 14 are applied over circuits 16, 17 to valves 18, 19, the anode circuits of which are supplied through a common resistance 30, which is connected to the control grid 3 of the C.R.T. 6. During the " return " periods, the positive impulses applied over condenser-resistance combinations to the grids of the valves 18, 19, overcome the normal negative bias and cause the valves to pass current freely and reduce the potential on the control grid 3 to cut off the ray. During the period between such impulses, the condensers 23, 46 discharge and bias the valves 18, 19 negatively. If either deflecting circuit fails, valve 18 or 19 passes current freely, thus reducing the potential on the control grid 3 to cut off the ray.
