Abstract

539,490. Cathode-ray tubes thermionic valve circuits. MARCONI'S WIRELESS TELEGRAPH CO., Ltd. March 11, 1940, No. 4546. Convention date, March 10, 1939. [Classes 39 (i) and 40 (v)] In an electron discharge tube having two or more adjacent beams 1, 2 the current flow in one, say No. 1, is controlled by the second beam which is modulated. The beams are focused by an electromagnet 20 and enclosed in a shield 16 maintained at a potential positive to the cathodes 10, 11. The shield may be of rectangular cross-section and the end plates may be separate from the main part of the shield and at a different potential. The output anode 14 is connected to a load circuit; the anode 15 for the controlling beam may be at a negative potential so that electrons in the beam return to the cathode 11. The device may be used as a relay ; as a generator of square topped wave-form pulses sinusoidal currents are supplied by a transformer 21. Modulating currents are injected by a transformer 22 to vary the time intervals of the pulses.
