Abstract

493,279. Television transmitters; valve circuits. BAIRD TELEVISION, Ltd., and NUTTALL, T. C. Jan. 20, 1938, No. 5000. [Classes 40 (iii) and 40 (v)] Synchronizing pulses are inserted in picture signals by a circuit comprising a valve 1 amplifying the picture signals and a secondary emitting valve 12 fed with a constant or slowly varying voltage on its grid, both valves being rendered nonconducting by a pulse from a source 10 applied across the common cathode resistance 11, and the anode current of valve 1 being combined with the current in the secondary emitting electrode circuit of valve 12. As the result of the secondary emission, the two currents are out of phase, so that the gap produced in the picture signals is precisely filled by an inverse pulse of predetermined amplitude. The circuit may also be used to mask out part of the picture and the inserted pulse may have an amplitude dependent on the picture signal amplitude to reinsert direct current components.
