Abstract
668,232. Valve amplifying and generating circuits. MARCONI'S WIRELESS TELEGRAPH CO., Ltd. Sept. 4, 1950 [Jan. 30, 1950], No. 2413/60.. Class 40 (vi). In a feed-back amplifier or oscillator employing two or more valves and having a negative feed-back connection from the anode of a second valve to the cathode of the first positive feed-back is applied to a grid further from the cathode than the control grid of the first valve. Negative feed-back is applied from the anode of valve V2 over resistor RF to the cathode resistor RC of valve VI, while positive feedback is applied over path PFB to the outer (i.e. suppressor) grid of valve V1. Variations in the potential of the suppressor grid of valve V1 primarily affects the distribution of cathode current between the screen grid and anode so that the cathode potential does not change appreciably. This allows the use of a large resistor RC in the cathode lead and a correspondingly large resistor RF thereby increasing the gain of the amplifier and thus the gain without feed-back. It is stated that amplifiers are increased in selectivity while oscillators maintain more constant amplitude on larger frequency ranges.
