427,360. Thermionic valves ; circuits. MARCONI'S WIRELESS TELEGRAPH CO., Ltd., Electra House, Victoria Embankment, London.-(Smith, J. C. ; 4618, Lafayette Avenue, Merchantville, New Jersey, U.S.A.) Feb. 26, 1934, No. 6237. [Classes 39 (i) and 40 (v)] A valve comprises screening means screening the main anode from an auxiliary anode and from the control grid, and adapted upon variations of the potential of the screening means to vary the mutual conductance between the control grid and main anode whilst producing only a negligible change in the mutual conductance between the control grid and the auxiliary anode. The screening means may be located clear of the path between the cathode and the main anode. In one form, Fig. 1, a valve comprises a cathode 8, a control grid 10 and a main anode 13 and auxiliary anode 12. Either anode may be made of mesh or of sheet-metal. The screening means 19 comprises a grid structure 20, an outer screen structure 21 and a connecting perforated plate 22. The grid portion 20 is closed by a cap 23. The valve may be connected in circuit as shown in Fig. 2 in which a signal input circuit 32 is connected to the control grid 26, and an output circuit 33 to the main anode 27. The auxiliary anode 28 is connected to a circuit including a coupling coil 36 and a high resistance 38 maintaining constant current. The screen 29 is connected to a variable tap 39 so that its grid portion 30 alters the mutual conductance of the main anode circuit. In a modification, the input circuit is connected to a second control grid interposed between the screen portion 30 and the main anode ; a second screen is then interposed between this control grid and the main anode and is connected to the screen structure 29. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 408,328.
