Abstract

In the washing of textile materials in hard water with washing-agents stable to hard water, precipitates or deposits of inorganic metal salts are avoided or removed by adding to the washing solution or treating subsequently with a solution of, a mixture of a water-soluble salt of a phosphoric acid and a water-soluble salt of a polymeric carboxylic acid. Suitable salts are the alkali and ammonium salts of orthophosphoric acid, e.g. disodium and trisodium phosphates, and the alkali salts of polyacrylic acid, or polystyrol-maleic acid obtained by polymerizing a mixture of styrol and maleic acid. Washing agents may be those described in Specification 308,824, [Class 2 (iii)], 341,053, 343,524, 343,899, 360,982, 366,916, or 372,005. Examples of solutions are: (1) trisodium phosphate and sodium polyacrylate with the sodium salt of oleic acid methyl tauride; (2) disodium phosphate and sodium polyacrylate with the sodium salt of palm nut oil tauride; (3) trisodium phosphate and sodium polyacrylate with the sodium salt of oleic acid sarcoside; (4) trisodium phosphate and sodium polyacrylate with oxyethylated coconut amide; (5) disodium phosphate and the ammonium salt of polystyrol-maleic acid with the sodium salt of oleic acid methyl tauride; and (6) trisodium phosphate and the sodium salt of polystyrol-maleic acid with the sodium salt of acid sulphuric ester of lauryl alcohol. Specifications 415,718, 420,545, and 452,649 also are referred to.ALSO:In the washing of textile materials in hard water with washing-agents stable to hard water, precipitates or deposits of inorganic metal salts are avoided or removed by adding to the washing solution, or treating subsequently with a solution of, a mixture of a water-soluble salt of a phosphoric acid and a water-soluble salt of a polymeric carboyxlic acid. Suitable salts are the alkali and ammonium salts of ortho-phosphoric acid, e.g. disodium and trisodium phosphates, and the alkali salts of polyacrylic acid, or polystyrolmaleic acid obtained by polymerizing a mixture of styrol and maleic acid. Washing agents may be those described in Specification 308,824, [Class 2 (iii)], 341,053, 343,524, 343,899, 360,982, 366,916 or 372,005.
