Abstract

A corrosion inhibitor for adding in relatively small quantities to water or water emulsions used as coolants in metal cutting and grinding operations, in quenching or hardening processes, or in hydraulic plants, refrigerators, &c. comprises a solution of a mixture of, at least, sodium carbonate and sodium nitrite in the proportion of 1 to 10-20 by weight respectively. A solution of 7.5 kgms. sodium carbonate and 142.5 kgms. sodium nitrite in 300 litres of water is specified as suitable, although small quantities of trisodium phosphate, sodium silicate and potassium bichromate may be added. The solution, with an addition of soda ash, may also be used for corrosion-resisting baths.ALSO:A corrosion inhibitor for adding in relatively small quantities to water or water emulsions used as coolants in metal cutting and grinding operations, in quenching or hardening processes, or in hydraulic plants, refrigerators &c. comprises a solution of a mixture of at least, sodium carbonate and sodium nitrite in the proportion of 1 to 10-20 by weight respectively.
