Abstract

Mild steel surfaces are treated, to improve their bonding properties, with a solution consisting of, by weight, H2O 20-65 per cent, H2O2 5-30 per cent, and H3PO4 and/or H2SO4 25-70 per cent. Surface-active agents such as aryl-alkyl sulphonates or sulphonated higher fatty alcohols may be added to the solution. The treated surfaces are stated to be well suited to receive coatings of lacquer, paint, resin, rubber and metal.
