Abstract
A composition for use in aqueous solution for electrolytic removal of rust and other surface coatings from metal (see Group XXXVI) contains materials in about the proportions of 2 to 3 1/2 lbs. alkali-metal hydroxide, 1 to 8 ozs. alkali-metal chloride, 3 to 12 ozs. alkali-metal cyanide, 1/4 to 2 ozs. alkali-metal fluoride, 1/16 to 14 ozs. wetting agent, which may be a sulphated fatty alcohol or a sulphonated oil, and 2 to 4 ozs. alkali-metal metasilicate. There may also be about 1 to 2 ozs. of an alkali-metal stannate or zincate.
