Abstract

Metal surfaces (I) are coated by contacting (I) with a self-depositing coating compsn. (I) being such that the formed coating has faults improvement is that (I) is treated with an acid material prior to contacting with the coating compsn. Formation of faults e.g. blisters, craters or pinholes is inhibited or prevented by the pretreatment. The process is suitable for metals which have been worked e.g. lathed or punched and have scratches or dents.
