Abstract

A composition for the treatment of metal surfaces e.g. steel comprises 1 part of NH4HF and from 1 to 3.2 parts of H2O2 or urea peroxide, and may be prepared from a dry mixture of NH4HF and NH2CONH2 in the ratio 100:1 to 100:110 by dissolving in water and adding H2O2. The solution thus outlined is used for cleaning metal surfaces by immersing the metal therein e.g. at 35-50 DEG C.
