Abstract
An aqueous alkaline solution for descaling lead anodes comprises 10-400 g.p.1. of a water-soluble gluconate, gluconic acid or glucono delta lactone and 10-400 g.p.1. of caustic potash, caustic soda or ammonium hydroxide. The baths may also contain wetting agents and chelating agents (e.g. the tetra sodium salt of E.D.T.A.). Lead anodes are descaled by immersion in the above solution for 20-30 minutes at temperatures up to 55 DEG C. The solutions may be made up from dry mixes comprising 15-85% of the caustic portion and 85-15% of the gluconate gluconic acid or glucono delta lactone.
