Abstract

A process for preparing a soap composition comprises adding a phosphorous-containing compound to soap to produce soap containing fatty acid, and subsequently preparing the soap composition from the soap containing the fatty acid, the amount of the phosphoruscontaining compound used being sufficient to provide from 1 to 20% by weight of fatty acid in the soap composition. The composition may contain 40 to 60% of a mixture of, by weight of the mixture, 10-30% potassium nut oil soap and 90 to 70% sodium nut oil soap, 10-35% sodium tallow-class fats soap and 6 to 20% of fatty acid. The phosphorus-containing compounds may be ortho-, pyro-, or metaphosphoric acids, triphosphoric, tetraphosphoric and superphospheric acids and their sodium salts. The use of mono-sodium dihydrogen orthophosphate and disodium dihydrogen pyrophosphate is preferred. The phosphorus compound may be added to the soap before the soap is dried to a water content of 5-12% by weight of the composition.
