Abstract

Cellulose esters, dyeing.--The fastness, especially the fastness to acid gases, of dyeings on cellulose fatty acid ester artificial silk material is improved by treating the material with a semicarbazide, which may be added to the dyebath or may be incorporated in the material before or after dyeing. In an example, acetate artificial silk, dyed with 1 : 4-di-(methylamino) anthraquinone, is treated for 20--30 minutes in a bath at 50--60 DEG C. containing 3 grams per litre of phenylthiosemicarbazide and containing a dispersing agent, e.g. soap or a condensation product of a fatty alcohol with ethylene oxide or of a high molecular carboxylic acid with an amino- or hydroxy-sulphonic acid or of formaldehyde with a naphthalenesulphonic acid.
