Abstract

In the dyeing of linear aromatic polyester fibres, particularly in the form of cross-wound packages, with disperse or azoic dyestuffs, level effects are obtained by treating the fibres, before, during or after dyeing, with the stearic acid diester of butanediol - (1 : 4) - pentaglycol diether or a mixture of its hydrolysis products, viz.: butanediol-(1 : 4)-pentaglycol diether and stearic acid. In addition, the ester may also be applied together with a subsequent reduction purification treatment, e.g., with sodium dithionate. Treatment with the ester may be effected at 98 DEG C.-148 DEG C. The dyebath preferably also contains a small amount of the alkali metal salt of N-oleyl-N-methyl-tauride. Examples are given.
