Abstract

Textile materials of polyamide fibres are dyed with acid- or neutral-dyeing acid, chrome, or 1 : 2 metal complex dyestuffs in the presence of sulphonated unsaturated fatty acids containing 16-20 carbon atoms, or sulphonated esters of such acids. Preferably an acid dyebath, containing formic or acetic acid, or ammonium sulphate, is used, and dyeing may be carried out at or above the boil and, if the latter, especially at 110-120 DEG C. The use of sulphonated castor oil (especially that having a degree of sulphonation of 80%), sulphonated oleic acid (degree of sulphonation 99%), and sulphonated butyl ricinoleate, is described in the examples. A tanning agent, e.g. tannin, may be added to the dyebath.
