Abstract
Chrome, chrome-synthetic or chromealum tanned suede leather is dyed in level, deep shades by impregnating the dry leather in a rotating drum with a cold concentrated solution of an acid- or directdyestuff in the presence of a wetting agent until fully penetrated, continuing the dyeing process with an increased liquor ratio and finally completing it at a higher temperature with a second addition of dyestuff, if desired applied from a fresh bath. Inclusion of the wetting agent may be effected by treating the leather, during or after tanning, with an anionic, cationic or non-ionic fat-liquor which contains, or has an emulsifier containing, a hydrophilic group. Alternatively, the wetting agent may be added to the dyestuff or to the dyestuff solution. When applicable, the dyeing may be diazotized and developed. Numerous examples are given. Specifications 502.767 and 526,015 [both in Group IV] are referred to.
