[Classes 2 (iii) and 15 (ii)] [Also in Group III] Products useful in the textile industry, as wetting, emulsifying, foaming or detergent agents, e.g. in acid and basic dyeing, mercerizing and finishing are obtained by treating with sulphonating agents boric acid esters of alkylol amides containing at least 12 carbon atoms derived from aliphatic carboxylic acids and alkylolamines. In examples: (1) coconut fatty acids are condensed with monoethanolamine, 2-amino-2-methyl-1 : 3-propanediol and with hydroxyethylethylenediamine, treated with boric acid and sulphonated ; (2) xylylstearic acid is condensed with monoethanolamine, converted into the orthoboric acid ester and sulphonated ; (3) stearic acid is condensed with trimethanolaminomethane, treated with boric acid and sulphonated. Capric, lauric, undecylenic, myristic, palmitic, oleic, ricinoleic, dihydroxystearic, erucic, stearylgluconic and sebacic acids are mentioned and the following alkylolamines isopropanolamine, 1-amino-2- hydroxybutane, 1-amino-3-aminobutanol, 8- amino-2-hydroxyoctanol, glucosamine, glycerolamine, diethanolamine, di-isopropanolamine, 2-amino-3-hexanol, 3-amino-4-heptanol, 2- amino-1-pentanol, 5-amino-4-octanol, 2- amino-2-methyl-1-propanol, 5-amino-4-octanol, 3-amino-3-methyl-2-butanol, 2-amino-2-methyl- 3 - hexanol, 2 - amino - 2 - methyl- -1- butanol, 3 - amino-3 - methyl - 4 - heptanol, 2 - amino -2 - methyl-4-heptanol, 2-amino-2-methyl-1 : 3- propanediol, 2-amino-3-ethyl-1 : 3-propanediol, 2-amino-propyl-l : 3-propanediol and 2-amino- 2 - isopropyl- 1 : 3 - propanediol.
