Description

Solutions for dyeing purposes For the production of naphtholate solutions for the so-called naphthol A-S dyeings from oxynaphthoic acid arylides, the Naphthols are made into a paste with Turkish red oil and similar wetting agents in order to to achieve clear solution. Nevertheless, these solutions are often not tenable and fall, especially with calcareous water, whereby a decomposition of the naphtholate occurs, so that it can no longer be used for the dyeing process.

It has now been shown that sulfonated wool fatty acids like them z. B. prepared by the method of patent 531 296, even with calcareous Water significantly increases the shelf life of 2-3-oxynaphthoic acid arylide solutions. Even sparingly soluble naphthols such as 2-3-oxynaphthoic acid-2'-naphthalide can be used easily dissolve with such wool fatty acids. The solutions remain also clear over 24 hours while using turkey red oil already fail after a short time and become unusable. Such an effect can be also with products made by sulfonating certain fractions of wool fat obtainable by the process of U.S. Patent 1,543,157; the effect of these products is rather similar to that of Turkish red oil. To this comes nor that of a product that is supposed to be suitable for the present purpose, a certain acid resistance must also be required. The one with the 2-3-oxynaphthoic acid arylide solution Treated dyed material is added to the coupling bath when it is wet and therefore takes part of the added protective colloid with it. The latter is now sensitive against acids, it is reflected in the weakly acidic coupling bath on the fiber down and causes blotchy staining. For this reason alone, the products come of American patent i 543 157 for the purposes of the here considered Colorations are out of the question, as they only add neutral or alkaline aqueous emulsions build ability.

The prescribed use of formaldehyde also proves here useful in that the solutions with formaldehyde are more durable than those without the addition made of formaldehyde.

Example 5 g of 2-3-oxynaphthoic acid-2'-naphthalide are made into a paste with 1/2 to double the amount of the sulfonated wool fatty acid and a little hot water until a uniform paste is formed. Then -r5 ccm of sodium hydroxide solution 3q. ° B6 and about 1/21 hot water are added. The solution is boiled for a # until it is -clear diluted to 1 1 and, after cooling to 5 of a 40 per cent laundri @ membered formaldehyde solution ccm added.
