Abstract
439,227. Electric incandescent lamps. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd., Crown House, Aldwych, London. June 11, 1935, No. 16812. Convention date, June 12, 1934. [Class 39 (ii)] An electric incandescent projection lamp comprises a filament arranged so that the light rays emanating therefrom will be at a maximum in a given direction, and a bulb having a non - circular cross - section of such shape that the distance from wall to wall thereof in the direction of maximum light emission is less than the distance from wall to wall at right angles thereto. Preferably, the cross-section of the bulb is oval or elliptical, as shown in Fig. 2, and the filament 14, Fig. 1, is of the monoplane type and disposed substantially symmetrically in the major axis of the elliptical section of the bulb. The filament is supported by wires 16, 17 which are mounted on insulating blocks 18, 19 carried by rigid conductors 15, preferably of channel section. The bulb 10 may be combined with a cupshaped glass body 11 of corresponding crosssection, provided with limbs 12 carrying terminals 13, as described in Specification 435,663. In a modification, the filament is located within a comparatively small portion of elliptical section at the upper end of a bulb, the main portion of which may be of circular section. The bulb is preferably filled with an inert gas and sealed off at the part 20.
