[Also in Divisions H1 and H2] A decorative electric lighting cable comprises two foil strips of synthetic material interwoven with two insulated current conducting wires. As shown (in Fig. 1) a garland 5 is made by twisting together two foil strips 1, 2, each having a plurality of transverse slits in their edges, and insulated wires 3, 4. The garland has, spaced at intervals along its length, a series of lamps one of which (shown in Fig. 3) comprises a socket body 6 (Fig. 4) housing a light bulb 14 and having outer flanges 22 for supporting a ball 23. On screwing the cap 15 to the body spikes 8<SP>1</SP> and 9<SP>1</SP>, protruding from metal contacts 8 and 9 of conducting elements 10 and 11 into the groove 7, pierce the insulation of the wire 3 housed in the groove to electrically connect the inner core of the wire to the bulb 14. The wire is severed in the region between the spikes in the groove to avoid short circuiting. A suspension loop 25 pivotally attached to the cover enables the body to be supported from the line 26. The ball 23 may be a globe of coloured transparent material consisting of two hemispherical parts and is snapped into position over the flanges of the socket.
