Drawings to Specification. [Class 39 (ii).] Filaments; screens within bulbs.-In electric incandescent gas-filled lamps of the type wherein the filament is formed by a flat body consisting either of metal foil or a series of adjacent wires or coils of wire, a hood or cap located adjacent to the filament is so shaped that it concentrates and accumulates the heat and light radiated, and prevents or retards the circulation of the gas around the filament. The hood or cap may, in known manner, be made of a poor conductor of heat such as zirconium oxide, aluminium oxide, or an oxide of a rare earth metal. The face of the hood towards the filament may be provided with a metal coating, or a thin metal screen may be interposed between the hood and filament. The flat filaments are preferably formed by connecting thin tungsten wires in parallel, care being taken to provide a substantially line contact.
