[Class 135] [See also Group XI] In a vapour burning lamp or stove a phial 13 containing distilled water or other fluid and communicating with a bellows 2 is provided within the vaporizing tube 6, the vaporization of the water when the tube 6 is heated sufficiently to vaporize the fuel contained therein causing a bellows 2 to expand and to depress a plate 15, thereby admitting fuel from the pressure reservoir 1 to a tube 4 leading to the tube 6 and withdrawing a valve 8 carrying a pricker needle 9 from the vapour nipple 7. The tube 6 is heated at starting either by an annular trough burner or by a torch 25 which may be supplied with air from the reservoir 1 through a pipe 24. The inlet 23 to the pipe 24 is controlled by a valve 22 which is connected by a pivoted arm 20 and a rod 19 to the plate 15. The valve 22 is moved to the closed position when the vaporizing tube 6 is heated sufficiently to expand the bellows and operate the plate 15. The tube 6 is then maintained at the fuel vaporizing temperature by the flame from the main burner 10 which may be fitted with an incandescent mantle. The plate 15 is attached to a plate 3 carrying the bellows by springs opposing the expansion of the bellows and may be guided by a rod or rods 17 fitted with springs 30. Instead of the bellows 2 a chamber fitted with expansible diaphragms may be used.
