[Class 89 (iii)] A hand-tool for driving single staples comprises a body member a with cover plates c, d. The body member is formed with an open vertical slot a<1> to accommodate a spring - controlled plunger b and with a groove a<2> for a thin driver b<1> which is secured to, or integral with, the plunger b. A separate anvil g with a clenching die h has extensions g<1> which slidably engage a lug c<1> on the cover plate c, so that the tool can operate on work of different thicknesses. Single staples f are inserted in the lower end of the groove a<2>. The stroke of the plunger b is controlled by a pin b<2> and a slot in the plate c, and the plunger may be actuated by a lever.
