Abstract
437,577. Fastenings. BOWER, A. T., and MASSEY, W., Longford Mill, Chester Street, Oxford Road, Manchester. March 30, 1935, No. 9920. [Class 44] A one-piece pivoted lever acting as an automatic latch for a door has one part adapted to engage a catch and another part adapted to engage with a staple so as to be secured by a padlock. Fig. 2 shows the device applied to a double door wherein a bar c fixed to one door is engaged by a lever g pivoted at h to a plate d secured to the other door. The lever g has a downwardly bent portion terminating in a ring through which the padlock may be slipped when not in use, and has a slot g<1> to pass over a staple k on the plate d through which the padlock is passed to lock the lever g. Fig. 4 shows a lift-latch l having a lug n passing over a staple o through which the padlock may be passed. Alternatively the lever may have a vertical lug adjacent to a similar lug on the usual guide strap s, the padlock being passed through both lugs to secure the latch.
