Abstract
361,567. Hasp fastenings. CHENEY, C. W., Factory. Road, Soho, Birmingham. Nov. 1, 1930, No. 32861. [Class 44.] A slidably adjustable hasp fastening for suit cases, &c. comprises an attachment plate a with a groove a having along the bottom thereof a line of ratchet teeth a<4>, and a trough-like hasp-bar c slidably and hingedly secured to plate a by lugs, not shown, passed through slots a at the bottom of the groove, and clinched over. Alternatively, lugs may engage slots or grooves in the side-walls of the trough. The bar carries the usual staple &c. d for engagement by the lock bolt, and a spring e with a tongue e<2> which engages the teeth a3 when the hasp is in the locked position (shown dotted, Fig. 2), and throws the bar c outwards, disengaging the ratchet, when the staple d is released. Perforations may replace the ratchet teeth, and a spring-pressed pin the tongue e<2>. Particularly in its closed position the bar c fits in the groove a2 and is thereby held against lateral displacement.
