Abstract
323,427. Cheney, C. W. March 15, 1929. Hasp fastenings for expansible suit-cases, trunks, &c. comprises a plate a secured to the case &c. and having an upstanding rib c with inturned longitudinal flanges c<2>, c<3>. The hasp bar g (shown separated, Fig. 5) is hingedly and slidably mounted on the rib by inturned hook members g<5>, g<6> engaging the flanges c<2>, c<3>. The staple h, notched peg, or the like for engagement by the usual lock, not shown, may be carried on the bar g or on a piece hinged thereto. A spring i urges the bar g outwards towards the oblique position shown. Bar g is of channel section to embrace the rib c in the locked position and has ratchet teeth j engageable by a pin d which may be fixed, or as shown, mounted on a spring e. In an alternative form the bar g may be hinged to a separate short member slidable on the rib. A modification, Fig. 9, shows the provision of an additional pivoted hand-operated catch m having a pin m<3> adapted to engage one or other of a series of perforations l in the rib c.
