Abstract

284,930. Bunn, C. W. July 8, 1927. Latches, sliding.-A spring or springs 18, Fig. 1, is used to steady the two-armed tumbler 17 in addition to the main spring 21 for the latch 3. The latch is slotted at 8 for the tumbler boss and is recessed to receive the tumbler arms which engage tongues 7 on the latch, the tumbler 17 being operated by an inside handle 12. An outside handle operates a one-armed tumbled 22 which engages a shoulder 10 on the latch and is locked by a lever 24. Lever 24 is operated by a handle 26 and is retained in both positions by a spring 27 which passes a dead-centre position. To vary the length of latch while using standard parts, the head 30, Fig. 5, and tail 29 of the latch are made separate and are connected by a riveted strip 31. In a modification, Fig. 6, springs 34 are carried on pins 33 attached to a plate 32 placed between the tumbler 17 and the latch 3.
