Abstract

302,524. Marks, E. C. R., (McKinney Manufacturing Co.). March 6, 1928. Latches, sliding; night-latches.- The latchbolt 9, Fig. 15, is adjustably carried by a sleeve 5 projecting through the tubular casing 1 and provided with a crosshead 8. This crosshead is engaged by one of two cams 17 each carried by a disc 14 mounted on a handle-spindle 13. The latch is locked by a rotatable bolt 21 mounted in a socket in the casing 1 and notched to pass the sleeve 5, a lower bolt being provided if required for actuation from the other side of the door, or one bolt may be actuated from either side. The latch-head slides in a serrated plug 10 driven into the door. The sleeve 5 slides against the action of a spring 12 on a pin 6 carried by the casing. The casing 1 carries end plates 2, Fig. 5, one of which is integral and the other threaded or both may thread into the casing, and each plate 2 has a threaded extension 3 receiving a cap 19 engaging a cover plate 18 to adjustably secure the casing in position. The spindle 13 is extended at 15 and threaded for the handle 16. A second latch may be combined with the same cover plates, the lower latch being key-operated on one side, the key rotating a disc carrying a cam 17.
