Abstract
226,937. Bowl, W. E. Nov. 19, 1923. Latches, sliding.-Tubular mortice latches of the kind in which the latch-bolt is formed with a bevelled head on a cranked flat-bar shank with a slot through which passes the follower spindle. the shank has discs formed integral with it for guiding the latch-bolt in the tubular casing. The shank b carries the head a and is cranked at b<2>. A slot c is provided in it for the passage of the spindle g which carries the follower j and handles k. Discs b<1> are formed at each end of the shank and serves as means for guiding the bolt in the casing e. A latch-shooting spring f abuts on the innermost disc. A projection m is formed on the shank b to engage a pin n carried by a sleeve s and operated by a cap o against a spring r to lock the bolt against retraction. The pin n is held in operative position by a projection on it engaging a bayonet-slot on the sleeve s. In the form shown in Fig. 4, two or more shoulders v are provided on the shank for engagement with the follower j, necessitating more than one complete turn of the handles to withdraw the bolt.
