Abstract
474,641. Door-latches. NETTLEFOLD & SONS, Ltd., and KETLEY, A. J. June 25, 1936, Nos. 17676 and 28375. [Class 44] A latch is operated from a plunger moving substantially parallel to the plane of the door by means located in a leg or stem on which the handle is mounted. A latch 9 is operated by a plunger 13 or 14 in handle 1 acting through a pin-and-slot connection 11, 12, which enables the reciprocating movement of the plunger to be converted into rotational movement of the follower. The shaft 5 connecting the follower to the pin- and-slot connection is located in the leg 2. Fig. 5 shows a pivoted lever 44 which is used to transmit the movement of the plunger 47 to the bell-crank 48 which withdraws the latch. A stop 49 is placed in the bottom end of grip bar 41 to preserve the symmetry of the latch and act as an abutment for spring 50 which tends to return the plunger 47 to its inoperative position. A modification in which a rack-andpinion connection between the plunger and latch is used is also described. The leg which is not carrying the latch operating mechanism may carry a key hole or barrel of a dead lock. The invention may also be applied to handles rigidly mounted on a single leg.
