'[Class 44] A door fastening, particularly for vehicles, comprises a spring loaded sliding latch bolt, an actuating handle of bell-crank form for retracting the bolt consisting of two coaxially pivoted parts, and a lock whereby the two parts can be secured together or rendered inoperative. The bolt a, Fig. 1, is urged outwardly by a spring c, and retracted by contact of a lug f on a runner-plate e with a shoulder h on the bolt. The plate e is retracted either by a link i connected to an inside handle, or by the arm d<2> of a bell-crank lever d', d<2>, Fig. 2, of which the arm d forms the outside handle. Alternatively the arm d<2> may act directly on the bolt, the runner plate and inside handles being omitted. The common pivot j of the two arms is journalled in a fixed fitting k, and at a point near the pivot the arm d' carries a spring plunger o, Fig. 3, adapted to enter a hole p in the short arm d<2>, locking the arms together. To disconnect the arms and render the long arm ineffective, a plunger r is operated by a crank pin q on a barrel lock m in the fitting k to force the plunger o out of engagement with the short arm d<2>, thus freeing the handle for ineffective rotation while locking the short arm d<2>.
