Abstract

226,936. Bowl, W. E. Nov. 19, 1923. Latches, sliding.-The spring-pressed latch a, b of a tubular mortise lock is withdrawn by the actuation of a two armed-lever f, pivoted to the sleeve-like casing c, one arm of the lever f acting on a lug g on the tube a and the other arm being acted on by a second two-armed lever e, also pivoted to the casing c, and the other arm of which, as shown, is acted on by a push-and-pull spindle h. Instead of the push-and-pull spindle h, the lever e may be operated by means of a pivoted lever one end of which forms the handle or by a cam on a rotary spindle. The spindle h may he secured against movement by means of a sliding catch r which is moved into engagement with a groove s in the handle l by rotating a ring p on a boss n secured to the door, the ring p having a cam groove engaging a projection on the catch r. The latch a, b may also be secured against operation by means of a catch t operated by a cam surface on the ring p.
