Abstract

136,259. Ryall, A. U. B., and Beldam, G. W. Dec. 11, 1918. Night-latches; wards; latches, pivoted. - A pivoted latch 1 mounted on a plate 7 on the inside of the door is operated by knobs on a spindle 3, circular in cross-section, only when a. sliding bolt 15 mounted on the latch is engaged with a collar 12 secured to the spindle. When the outside knob is disengaged, the latch can be operated from the outside by a key with a pivoted bit inserted in a keyhole 11. A bar 20 beneath the latch and a pin 21 on a guide-plate 18 serve as wards for the key-bit. The keyhole tube 11 and a second tube forming a bearing for the knob spindle are fixed to a plate secured on the outside of the door. In a modified form, two latches are provided, one for operation by the key and the other by the knobs.
