Abstract

268,462. Cheney, C., W. Jan. 12, 1926. Hasp fastenings. - The hasp member carries two opposite and transverselydirected catches adapted to enter and engage with a snap action the ends of a slot provided in the plate member; As applied to an expansible suitcase, the plate member a is provided with one slot or a number of slots a<2> in succession, and the hasp c applied to the lid carries two catches f, g separated bv a spring h which causes them to engage with a snap action in the ends of the slots in the plate member. The catches have rounded ends f<2>, g<2> and finger grips f<3>, g<3> for hand operation. Conveniently, the catches ara applied to the inner side of the hasp, and the plate member is boxed as at a<5> at the back of the slot. The hasp is provided with a key-operated bolt which, when shot between the catches, locks the parts in engaging positions. In a modified construction, the plate member a is slidably mounted upon a ratchet plate that is fixed to the case and is engaged by pawl on the plate a; this construction may be modified by attaching the pawl to the hasp member c instead of to the plate a.
