Abstract
403,833. Fastenings for attache cases &c. CHENEY, C. W., Factory Road, Soho, Birmingham. Feb. 23, 1933, No. 5488. [Class 44.] In a key-locked fastening of the kind comprising a bolt adapted to be drawn back manually by a knob against the action of a spring, and a tumbler is rotatably mounted on a key peg or pivot, the tumbler f is disposed against the front plate c and is wholly or partly covered by the knob g. The knob is fixed to the bolt a so that knob, bolt, and tumbler move together, and the tumbler is adapted to be turned by the key engaging a stump f<3> on its face. When the tumbler is in locking position, a tongue d<2> on the back plate d engages the narrow portion of a gate f<4> in the tumbler, so that the bolt cannot be moved by the knob. When the tumbler is turned by the key, the tongue d<2> enters the wide part of the gate, and the bolt and knob are free to be moved. Notches f<5> in the tumbler are adapted to snap engage a projection on the plate c to hold the tumbler in either position. In another form, the tumbler has a circular flange engaging the flange of the knob, and is held in either of its two positions by a peripheral spring projection entering one or other of a pair of slots in the flange of the knob.
