Abstract
448,679. Door fastenings. ALDAM, D. G., and ALDAM & CO., Ltd., E. H., Britannic Works, Haslemere Avenue, Wandsworth, London. Jan. 29, 1936, No. 2659. [Class 44] A fastening for sliding doors comprises a member c pivoted at c<1> to an attachment plate a secured to the edge of one door 1 and adapted to swing into engagement with a recess d in the face of the adjacent door 2. Recess d has a keeperplate e with aperture el and member c has a notch c<2> which engages the plate at the upper edge of the aperture to prevent separation of the doors laterally. A box-like cover-plate b hinged to plate a at a2 has its side-flanges cut away to provide shoulders b<3> which retain member c in its fastening position, the lower end having a slot b<1> which passes over a staple a3 receiving a pad-lock f, so that when secured by the padlock the cover-plate serves to relieve the pivot c<1> of strain should attempt be made to force the doors. When released, member c depends within the cover b and the parts are so dimensioned as to be within the thickness of door 1.
