430,237. Valves; valve gear; cylinders. GODSELL, F. G., GODSELL, F. A., and GODSELL, C. H., North Battleford, Saskatchewan, Canada. Sept. 15, 1933, No. 25584. [Classes 7 (ii) and 7 (vi)] [See also Group XXVI] A valve comprising a skirt or extension 1<a> of a piston rotatable upon its rod is given its rotary movement by the swing of the connecting-rod 11, which is attached to the piston by a ball joint 9 and is formed with a pair of projections 13<a>, 13<b> co-operating respectively with pairs of cam surfaces 12<a>, 12b formed on the piston, so that the piston is rotated one-eighth of a revolution at each swing of the rod. The ball-ended connecting-rod 10 enters a socket formed in a pair of plates 4 bolted at 6 to the piston ; or the two halves of the socket may be formed with pins adapted to be received in the usual gudgeon-pin bosses of the piston. The piston extension has ports 15 co-operating with cylinder inlet and exhaust ports 16, 17. The combustion chamber formed in the cylinder head is of conoidal form, and the piston has a cup-shaped projection as shown.
